LeBron James Diet Is Pretty Simple!
LeBron James said his dramatic summer weight loss was due to eating a very low carb, low sugar, and low dairy diet. If you are familiar with that, it’s basically the paleo diet.
James, who has since regained some weight, said he followed his strict diet for 67 days as a test of his willpower.
Losing weight is never easy at a later age, but taking the healthy approach is way safer than diet pills.
- Lebron says “I had no sugar, no dairy, no carbs!” Adding…
“All I ate was meat, fish, veggies and fruit. That’s it. For 67 straight days.”
James said his diet consisted entirely of meat, fish, vegetables and low-sugar fruit.
James Posted 2 Of His Meals During The Summer On Instagram
- One of his lunches was an arugula salad with chicken, strawberries, mangoes and cashews topped with vinaigrette dressing.
- Another low carb meal was a lobster salad with mango chutney.
LeBron said he “lost a ton of weight” but didn’t confirm exactly how much.
Since that he has put on a few pounds and looks fuller, but is still very lean.
It has been reported that LeBron lost about 10 pounds during his weight loss period.
From the look of the before and after pictures, it looks more like 20 pounds.
Who Inspired LeBron To Go On A DIET?
LeBron mentioned that his former teammate Ray Allen inspired him to lose weight.
Ray Allen has always been in great shape of course, but when he got super lean, James wanted in on the action.
- Ray was on a no carb, no sugar diet for quite some time, and it really caused him to lose some major weight.
Allen, 39, came back from the summer break in significantly better shape than he was the previous year.
Since James is much heavier, and getting older, he wanted to lighten up the pounds in order to keep his mobility, and also have much less stress on his body, and mainly bones.
- At a lighter weight, he would have more longevity, and also increase his speed.
Being super strong and slow will not serve him as well as speed in the NBA at his age.
Weight loss was not Allen’s goal when he embarked on the Paleo diet.
He said the diet gave him better stamina and dramatically improved his post-workout recovery.
- Ray did not only motivate LeBron to get in amazing shape, it also motivated Dwayne Wade as well. Which is no surprise.
These guys are all pro’s who are getting older and they needed to stay competitive.
NBA Players Diets Are Starting To Look Very Similar
A lot of players in the NBA are now starting to favor similar low carb and low sugar diets.
- Many players in the NBA already have amazing genetics, so they do not need to worry about any massive muscle loss.
Do you remember the time back in the day when our coaches didn’t tell us anything about diet?
All I ever used to hear coaches talk about, is that energy comes from carbohydrates, and we should eat plenty before basketball games.
This is exactly why all of the kids would go eat massive meals prior to basketball games, and have a food coma when it’s game time.
- This was also followed by a sugar crash at about half time. Unbelievable.
By drastically reducing carbs, your body is forced to burn fat.
With the insane amount of running NBA players do in training and in games, the pounds fly off quickly!
- As I just mentioned previously, the conventional diets for athletes used to be based on eating high carbs!
Everything is being flipped upside down with new research!
“There are many benefits that come along with these diets. Recovery and stamina are one, but the other and also very important one is mental health and positivity!”
What Is A NBA Ketogenic Diet?
Don’t let its fancy name fool you. A ketogenic diet is, essentially, a low-carb, and a high fat diet.
We all know that.
Since NBA organizations are implementing this kind of diet across the league, there is actually a thing that is now called an “NBA Keto Diet.”
LeBron James Crazy Workout Plan
LeBron is known for his workouts and the insane dedication he has to the sport of basketball.
You also might have heard that he spends around $1M on vitamins each year!
- Wouldn’t it be nice if you had that type of money?
So What Does LeBron Do In The Gym
Well for starters, I will tell you that deep detail doesn’t really matter here. Why?
“Because you are not LeBron for starters, and second, you can do any kind of similar exercises in order to achieve the same kind of improvements.”
LeBron is focused on one thing, and that is explosiveness and functional movements that will give him agility and speed.
- This would include any agility and explosive movements that you can find on Youtube.
LeBron does a lot of step climber, a lot of bands, box jumps, and explosive kettle bell movements.
During The Season, LeBron works out 7 Days A Week!
“Before competition for me would be like a chicken breast and maybe a little pasta,” James said in an interview.
“The carbs help because you’re going out and playing a lot of minutes. But a salad and some veggies will have me perfectly fine. And before the game I might have a protein shake and some fruit, and I’ll be ready to go. But as far as pies or pizza and sandwiches and french fries — I can’t. I’ll wait for that after the game. I can’t do that before the game.”
During The Off Season, LeBron Goes To The Gym 5 Times A Week!
Giving his body some time to recover and heal, during the off season, he only goes to the gym 5 times a week.
He starts his days by waking up at 5 am and being in the gym!
- It’s funny how people that are in great shape work out more than people that are not. Funny how that works.
If one of the most fit people on earth wakes up at 5 am to work out, why can’t you?
